SOLVED: The Featured Image Should Have a Size of at Least 1200 by 675 Pixels Warning on WordPress

Have you been seeing the warning, “The Featured Image Should Have A Size Of At Least 1200 by 675 Pixels” on WordPress while creating a new post on the Gutenberg editor (block editor)?

Is this really a problem? The short answer is that this is not really a problem as going ahead to publish your articles with a featured image less than 1200 by 675 pixels in size does not pose any SEO issue for your post, however there have been people who complained that when they see the warning, “The Featured Image Should Have A Size Of At Least 1200 by 675 Pixels” when publishing their posts, the posts sometimes do not serve the correct featured images when shared on Facebook.

In this post, I would be showing you how to edit and change the default recommended featured image size in WordPress which would fix any issue you have been having.

When do you see the warning: The Featured Image Should Have A Size Of At Least 1200 by 675 Pixels?

This warning which is actually a recommendation shows up when you add a featured image less than the recommended resolution of 1200 by 675 pixels to your post. This warning message is not from WordPress but from the AMP plugin by AMP Project Contributors. So you will only see this warning if you are using this particular AMP plugin. Disabling the plugin would fix the issue but I am sure that is not what you want as you would likely want to continue using AMP on your website.

How to edit the recommended featured image size on WordPress

To edit the recommended featured image size, you will need to edit the AMP plugin file via FTP or file manager in cPanel.

Log in to cPanel, go to File Manager, then go to the directory of the website you are working on. Go to wp-content folder, then go to plugins >> amp >> includes >> admin. In the admin folder, find the php file with the name class-amp-post-meta-box.php and open it up for editing.

Now find the section of the code where the featured image width and height is defined as 1200 and 675 pixels as shown in the image below and change the value of both the width and height to zero which will disable the minimum constraint. You can find the section of the code easily by searching for 1200. Press Ctrl + F on your keyboard and type 1200 to search.
